VMWare's virtual application is probably similar but I don't know enough about the virtual applications as to whether they compare with Citrix properly or is although different technology.īecause it's seems to be streaming a display from the server (correct me if I'm wrong) won't this hamper my execution speed, significantly increase latency? Should I just use VMWare? Unlike RDP/VPN, Citrix can be configured to show only certain applications that you have to choose from a menu and show only the windows for those applications, so you can't get to the OS's menu/taskbar or such.
It's faster than a VPN because of the underlying technology (sending only the changes in the graphics as opposed to blocks of screen, I believe?).
So you get to log in remotely then pull up a windows. I'm assuming you mean VMWare application servers and not VMWare virtual machines? Citrix (and RDP as well) are basically a frame into a remote computer's screen.
How to run citrix on mac mac os x#
I've actually found RDP to be compartively more reliable and there's two good Mac OS X client for RDP.Īs for comparing to VMWare and so forth. So, even though in theory, it should not matter what OS your client is running on, it wasn't there for me few years back. They do offer Mac OS X clients but I've found that the support at the company was awful and knew nothing about supporting Mac OS X clients so I ended up using Windows client to satisfy the security requirements I remember trying to get it to work off Mac OS X but decided I was wasting too much of my time when I should be doing actual work so forgot about it.
